Nigerian 'Little Messi' sacked again! fcnaija.com Sep By: Ayodeji Tunde Share: stanley okoro little messi Stanley Okoro who is fondly referred to as 'Little Messi’ has been fired by Nigeria Professional Football League champions Plateau United. It was gathered that the former U17, U20 and Super Eagles forward was sent packing alongside seven other players who were deemed surplus to requirements by the recently crowned NPFL kings. For many, the case of Okoro is a classic example of falling from grace as he has failed to hit the right note 10 years after being given the iconic 'Little Messi' nickname. Okoro was one of the stars when the Golden Eaglets narrowly missed out on winning the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria. 'Little Messi' who was also sacked at Heartland struggled to make his mark with the Flying Eagles before he headed out to Almeria, where he failed to make the grade before he was shipped out on various loans across Europe. It is not surprising that Plateau United are clearing out their underperforming players as they have bigger assignments ahead of them next season and need the best legs they can get to make an impact on the domestic scene as well as on the continent
