Nigeria will become the second highest ranked team in Africa and the world, just behind Senegal after the recent rounds of World Cup qualifying matches. The new ranking is according to an alternative world ranking system for Football, the Eloratings. Nigeria picked four points against African Champions, Cameroon in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying double header. The Super Eagles’ performance saw them pick 1660 points, just 36 points short of Senegal’s 1696, who drew both games against Burkina Faso in this month. Eloratings are accumulated over a 12-month period. Meanwhile, Fifa’s last update on the world ranking system has Nigeria at 38th in the World and 6th in Africa. The World governing body’s latest update will be issued on September 14.

Ebele, a goalkeeper, plays for Heartland, who have recently gained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League, and was voted player of the season for the former Nigerian champions, as they made an instant return to the Nigerian top flight. The Naze Millionaires topped the Nigeria National League Southern conference with several matches to spare. And the club have now said the main reason for this was goalkeeper Ebele Obi. Club spokesman Solomon Onu said the former Enugu Rangers shot stopper was incredible throughout their promotion campaign in the lower league. Ebele recorded 15 clean sheets in 27 matches in the NNL and he was also the star as Heartland reached the Round of 16 of the Aiteo Cup.
