Back in June 2014, Robin van Persie believed he had the ability to play at the highest level for another 10 years.
“Ideally, I want to play until I’m 40 – maybe I can even stretch that to 42 – but that’s what I want because this is what I love doing and it’s what I’ve done my whole life,” the Dutch striker, then with Manchester United, was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.
“I want to stretch out this experience as long as possible because I like it so much. My goal is to play 22 years of professional football and I want to experience as many good moments as I can.”
Van Persie probably envisaged he would still at Old Trafford well into his late thirties.
Following his remarkable debut season with the Red Devils, he could have been forgiven for feeling like he was invincible.
Van Gaal killed Van Persie's United dream
However, age catches up with all players and Van Persie wouldn’t have predicted back then that he’d be plying his trade for Fenerbahce just 12 months later.
Van Persie clearly thought that United’s decision to replace David Moyes with Louis van Gaal, the man who’d made him captain of the Netherlands, would work in his favour.

But that wasn’t the case.
Van Persie’s ‘friendship’ with Van Gaal deteriorated rapidly over the course of the 2014-15 season and the Dutch centre-forward was unceremoniously dumped in a deal worth less than £4 million at the end of the campaign.
Van Persie has reached agreement with another club
Two years on and Van Persie now wants to leave Turkey.
The two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, who turns 34 next month, scored 36 goals in 82 appearances for Fener and was recently linked with a shock move to Crystal Palace.
Van Persie, according to Voetbal International, has now made a decision over his next club - but he won’t be returning to the Premier League.

It’s understood that he has reached an agreement with his first club, Feyenoord, over an emotional return to his homeland.
Van Persie has agreed a one-year deal with the option of an additional year and a deal could be announced before the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
However, there is one issue currently holding up the deal: Feyenoord still require Fenerbahce to dissolve the player’s contract.
Legends of Football
The Sun, meanwhile, understand that Van Persie’s wages have also proved to be a stumbling block.
But with the striker keen to leave Turkey this summer, don’t be surprised if he agrees to cut his wages in order to return to De Kuip.
